Apple Crisp

This quick and easy recipe for Apple Crisp is perfect if you’re on the gluten free diet or if you’re not– either way, it is delicious! This is a healthy baking adaptation from traditional apple crisps with a lot of vitamins and minerals, and a lot less sugar than traditional recipes. This recipe is versatile as it can serve as a dessert, snack, or even a breakfast recipe since it is loaded with apples, spices, oats, and nuts!

 

Apple Crisp 

Yield: 8 servings

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 25 to 30 minutes

Ingredients:  width=

2 tablespoons oil

4 firm apples, cored and sliced with skins on

1 tablespoon lemon juice

4 tablespoons honey or agave nectar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup rolled oats (gluten free if needed)

1/4 cup gluten free flour mix or flour of choice

1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds)

Pinch of sea salt

Directions:

1.  Heat the oven to 350 degrees F
2.  Rub 1 teaspoon of oil in 8 by 8″ pan to coat and set aside
3.  Fill the pan with the apples and stir in the lemon juice, 1 tablespoon sweetener and cinnamon
4.  Combine the remaining ingredients in a medium bowl and sprinkle over top of the apples
5.  Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping turns golden brown
6.  Remove from oven and let sit for about 10 minutes before serving

Note: Top with whipped coconut cream for a gluten free and dairy free treat!
