“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” –JFK
I’ve read a lot of e-mails lately with tips and tricks for “Surviving Thanksgiving”. Really? Are they afraid you’re going to gorge yourself until you burst? Gain 5 pounds in a day?
As a Fort Collins Nutritionist, I have a different perspective on Thanksgiving. It starts with gratitude and being thankful. So today, I want to thank you- my valued reader. Thank you for being you and for being interested and motivated to change your life through real food nutrition.
Real food is fuel for the body, mind, and soul and on Thanksgiving, be thankful for fresh vegetables to provide your body with loads of vitamins and minerals, and for all of the other foods at your feast to nourish your body. Thanksgiving comes around once a year, so enjoy it! Indulge. Don’t feel guilty. Eat what your body wants and as much as your body wants. Then. . . take a walk!
Over the past week, I’ve posted 6 new recipes to make your Thanksgiving baking a wee bit healthier. In case you missed any of these healthy-er sweet treats, here they are:
- Apple Cinnamon Muffins
- Pumpkin Mousse
- Apple Crisp
- Whipped Coconut Cream
- Pumpkindoodle Cookies
- Not Your Grandmother’s Pumpkin Pie
Happy Thanksgiving! – Erin
